Commercial dumpsters come in four front-load sizes: 2, 4, 6, and 8 cubic yards, holding anywhere from 8 to 40 standard trash bags per fill. All four are lidded, stay at your business full time, and get emptied on a set schedule (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or custom) on one monthly bill. The right size comes down to two numbers: how many bags you put out each week, and how often the truck comes.

Sizing is not just picking a box, it is picking a box and a schedule together. Your real requirement is weekly throughput: bags per week. A 2-yard emptied twice a week moves the same volume as a 4-yard emptied once, so a tight alley does not have to force a container that will not fit, and a big lot does not have to mean paying for daily routes.
Count the bags your business puts out in a week. Under 10, start the conversation at a 2-yard. 16 to 20, the 4-yard. Daily volume at scale, a 6 or 8.
A lid that will not close by pickup day means overage fees and unsafe lifts. Going up one size is almost always cheaper than paying overages or adding route days.
A container that sits half empty on pickup day means you are paying for air. Drop a size or stretch the schedule: the easiest waste savings there is.
Past the top of the lineup, compression beats capacity: compactors cut effective volume by up to 80 percent when even an 8-yard on daily pickup cannot keep up.

Business type is the best sizing shortcut we have. Restaurants usually run 4 or 6 yards with pickups matched to their busiest nights, retail lives and dies by cardboard, property managers size by unit count, and hotels generate waste as fast as housekeeping runs. The full industry-by-industry breakdown, plus how billing works and what goes in the container, lives on the commercial waste service page.

Front-load commercial dumpsters come in four sizes: 2, 4, 6, and 8 cubic yards. All four are 6 feet long; they grow by width and height. A 2-yard holds 8 to 10 trash bags per fill, a 4-yard 16 to 20, a 6-yard 24 to 30, and an 8-yard 32 to 40. Every size is lidded, stays at your business full time, and is emptied on a set route schedule.

Count the trash bags leaving your business in a week and match them to a size and schedule. A small office putting out a couple of cans fits a 2-yard weekly. A mid-size restaurant or retail store usually lands on the 4-yard, which is why it is our most popular size. Businesses producing significant waste daily run 6-yards, and shopping centers and warehouses run 8s. Tell us your business type and headcount and we will call the size for you.

There is no flat national rate for front-load service, because commercial pricing is set market by market. Your monthly number depends on your location, container size, pickup frequency, and waste type, so we quote it to your address. Call (866) 858-3867 and we will build one all-inclusive quote for your exact setup, usually within the hour.

Anywhere from bi-weekly for very low-volume businesses to daily for busy kitchens and high-volume sites. Weekly is the standard starting point for smaller containers, and 6 and 8 yard accounts typically run 2 to 5 pickups a week. The schedule is a route setting, not a contract rewrite: one call adjusts it as your volume changes.

A front-load is the lidded 2 to 8 yard container that lives behind a business permanently and gets emptied on a recurring schedule by a route truck. A roll-off is the long open-top 10 to 40 yard box delivered for a project and hauled away when it is full. Recurring weekly waste belongs in a front-load; renovations and cleanouts belong in a roll-off. Plenty of businesses run both.

Run both numbers, because they solve the same problem. Going up a size usually costs less than adding a route day, so chronic overfilling is normally solved with a bigger box. But if space is tight, a smaller container picked up more often moves the same weekly volume. And if a container sits half empty on pickup day, size down or stretch the schedule: paying for air is the most common waste-bill mistake we fix.

Yes. Dedicated cardboard-only and single-stream recycling containers are available in most markets in the same front-load sizes, placed alongside your waste dumpster. Pulling cardboard out of the trash stream often lets a business run a smaller, cheaper waste container.

Then it is a compactor conversation. A self-contained compactor compresses waste by up to 80 percent, which can take a high-volume site from daily pickups down to 2 or 3 a week. When an 8-yard on daily service is still tight, we quote the compactor program next to the container program and tell you straight which one wins.

One-time cleanout instead of ongoing service? That is a roll-off job: roll-off dumpster rental.
