How does the weight math work on a real job?
Worked example: A 12 x 12 ft room gut
Walls and ceiling of a 12 x 12 ft room with 8 ft walls hang about 528 sq ft of 1/2 inch drywall, roughly 845 lbs. That is under half the 2 tons included with a 20 yard, leaving most of the allowance for cabinets, flooring and fixtures.

Only hazardous materials (paint, solvents, chemicals, asbestos) are prohibited from standard dumpsters. Items like mattresses, tires, electronics, and appliances with refrigerants are allowed, but landfills charge per-item fees that vary by area. The 30-yard is the general contractor workhorse: big enough for framing and rough-in debris, small enough to place on most lots.
