The most common mistake people make with cleanup projects is underestimating the amount of debris. A single room renovation can easily fill a 10-yard dumpster, and a whole-house cleanout can require 30 yards or more. Our planner uses data from thousands of completed projects to give you a realistic estimate.

Timing matters too. Schedule your dumpster delivery for the first day of your project, not the day you expect to finish. Having the container on-site from the start lets you toss debris as you work instead of creating piles that need to be moved later. Most rentals include a standard 7-day period, which is enough for most single-room projects.

Before your dumpster arrives, complete the preparation checklist above. Clearing the delivery area, disconnecting utilities, and sorting items ahead of time will save you hours of work once demolition begins. And remember: donate what you can. Many items in good condition can go to Habitat for Humanity ReStores, Goodwill, or local charities instead of the landfill.
