Removing an in-ground swimming pool is a major project that generates tons of concrete, steel rebar, pool decking, coping, tile, plumbing lines, and either fiberglass or vinyl liner material. A typical 15x30-foot concrete pool produces 20-30 cubic yards of concrete alone, plus the surrounding deck material and equipment (pumps, filters, heaters). This is one of the heaviest residential demolition projects a homeowner will encounter.
There are two approaches to pool removal: full removal (excavating and removing all materials) and partial removal (breaking the bottom, filling with gravel, and burying it). Both generate significant debris that requires dumpster service, though full removal produces substantially more.
For full pool removal, you will typically need multiple 40-yard dumpsters loaded with concrete and rebar, plus a separate container for the lighter debris (fiberglass, liner, decking, equipment).
