Louisiana, City by City: One Price Ladder From New Orleans to Shreveport, the New Orleans Street Permit, and the Storm Rules That Actually Matter

Louisiana runs on one all inclusive price ladder, from New Orleans and Baton Rouge to Shreveport, Lafayette and Lake Charles. A 10 yard starts at $450 and a 20 yard at $575, with delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes and 7 days built in. What changes from city to city is the street permit and the storm calendar. This is the honest, city by city rundown, with the real prices from our live pages.

A plain green 20 yard roll off dumpster parked on the street in front of a pale blue Louisiana cottage on brick piers with a white columned front porch, loaded with wet drywall, rolled up carpet and bagged remodel debris, under live oak trees hung with Spanish moss, with a homeowner carrying a roll of old carpet from the porch steps.
The Louisiana gut and remodel. In New Orleans, a box on the street in front of the house needs the city permit before delivery: $40 plus $10 a day per 22 feet. On your own driveway, no permit is needed. THE DAILY HAUL

How much does a dumpster cost in Louisiana?

Start with the price, because Louisiana keeps it simple. On our dumpster rental pages, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Kenner, Bossier City, Monroe, Alexandria and Houma all share one ladder: a 10 yard at $450 to $650, a 15 yard at $485 to $685, a 20 yard at $575 to $775, a 30 yard at $675 to $875 and a 40 yard at $775 to $975, all inclusive. Every price covers delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes and 7 days, and extra days are $40 each anywhere in the state.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in New Orleans?

New Orleans has the clearest street rule in the state, so it is worth knowing before you order. A New Orleans dumpster rental on your own driveway or private lot needs no permit. If the box has to sit in front of the house on the street, the city requires a dumpster or storage container permit before delivery: a $40 application through the city's One Stop App, plus $10 a day for every 22 feet of street the box occupies outside metered areas. On a metered block, every space the box covers has to be rented. Tell us the spot and we line it up. Kenner and the rest of Jefferson Parish run on the same price ladder.

How does dumpster rental work in Baton Rouge?

Baton Rouge is the state's second big market and the one where we see the most searches. A Baton Rouge dumpster rental on private property is the simple path. A street, parking lane or sidewalk spot is a city-parish right of way question, so give us the exact address and we confirm the requirement and handle the paperwork if one is needed. Prairieville, Hammond and the towns along I-12 price the same, and the National Weather Service in New Orleans and Baton Rouge covers the forecast for both metros.

What does a dumpster cost in Shreveport and Bossier City?

Up in the northwest corner the price stays put. A Shreveport dumpster rental or a job across the river in Bossier City starts at $450 for a 10 yard, and a 30 yard for a whole house cleanout or a big roof runs $675 to $875. The same goes for Monroe and Alexandria. The National Weather Service in Shreveport covers that part of the state, where spring wind and hail can bring a cleanup just as fast as a hurricane does down south.

What about Lafayette, Lake Charles and Acadiana?

Acadiana and the southwest run on the same ladder. A Lafayette dumpster rental, a remodel in Lake Charles or a cleanout in Houma is the same flat number as New Orleans. On a driveway there is no permit; on a public street, every city sets its own right of way rule, so we confirm it for your address before the truck rolls.

When should I book a dumpster for storm cleanup in Louisiana?

The storm calendar is the one thing that is truly Louisiana. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, tracked by the National Hurricane Center, and after a big storm the whole region calls for the same containers in the same week. If you are planning a roof, a gut job or a cleanout, book it on a calm week, not the week after landfall. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles covers southwest Louisiana, and Slidell and the North Shore are part of the New Orleans office's area.

How much weight is included, and what about concrete or shingles?

The weight rules hold everywhere. The allowance is built in, about 1 ton on a 10 yard up to 4 tons on a 40, and anything over is billed at $165 a ton from the scale ticket. Heavy material gets its own flat price box: concrete runs $650 for a 10 yard, $750 for a 15 and $850 for a 20; clean dirt $750 to $950; mixed heavy debris $780 to $980. Roofing shingles are regular construction debris, sized by the squares and the layers. Wet drywall and soaked carpet from a flooded room weigh far more than dry, so tell us if the material is wet. Louisiana's solid waste rules are set by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and every load we haul goes to a licensed facility.

What is the fastest way to get a real price?

So in Louisiana the job comes down to three things: where the box will sit, whether the material is heavy or wet, and when you book it. The fastest way to the real number is to price your exact ZIP, which shows your flat rate, your included tons and your delivery day in a couple of minutes, or start from the Louisiana coverage hub and pick your city. Not sure on size? The free size calculator matches the box to the job, and our assistant Sam is on chat and the phone 24/7.

“We like to use private property as much as possible; street permits vary city by city.”

FROM THE DESK
The cost people never see is the landfill. When that container is full, I drive it to the transfer station and I pay to dump it, by the ton, right there. A load of concrete or wet demolition debris can carry a disposal bill by itself that is bigger than some of these cheap ads' entire price. That is exactly why our number includes a real weight allowance and the disposal trip, so you are not shocked at the end. When a price looks too low, the disposal is almost always the piece that got left out.
Michael V.Head of Operations
We like to use private property as much as possible; street permits vary city by city. When you call in, I will get you exactly what you need. The mistakes we see all the time are ordering the wrong size and not ordering enough weight. People want the cheapest up-front price, but the issue with that is you get what you pay for. It's best to discuss what you're using the dumpster for so we can price accurately, not set you up for failure with extra dump fees later.
Judi K.Site Services Specialist
For our commercial and repeat accounts, the reason they stay is that our one flat number is honest, so they can bid their own jobs with confidence. A contractor cannot run a business on a surprise invoice. The cheap headline that adds delivery, disposal, and overage later is worthless to a professional, because it wrecks the budget on the job. One all-inclusive price, no hidden fees, is not just customer-friendly, it is the only version a serious operator can actually plan around. Honest pricing is a feature, not a weakness.

This edition covers Louisiana, chosen by Dylan, the state with the most Google Search Console mobile impressions on dumpsterrentals.us location pages that we had not yet covered in the last 28 days (September 15 to October 10, 2026), with almost no clicks, led by Baton Rouge and Shreveport dumpster size searches. It is written to push crawl authority and buyer intent into the existing live Louisiana city pages, not to compete with them. Every price, the 12 yard range, the heavy material flat prices, the $165 per ton overage and the $40 per day extension are taken from the all inclusive ranges published on the live dumpsterrentals.us Louisiana city pages on October 13, 2026. The New Orleans permit fee, the $10 per day per 22 feet charge and the metered space rule are from the City of New Orleans dumpster or storage container permit page. The hurricane season dates are from the National Hurricane Center. Portable toilet prices are from the live Louisiana portable toilet page.
