Wisconsin, City by City: One Price Ladder From Milwaukee to Sheboygan, the Street Permits Every City Prices Its Own Way, and the Winter Rule Milwaukee Enforces From December to March

Wisconsin runs on one all inclusive price ladder on our live pages, from Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay to Sheboygan, Kenosha, Racine, Appleton, Oshkosh, Eau Claire and La Crosse. A 10 yard starts at $495 and a 20 yard at $595, with delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes and 7 days built in. What changes is the street permit, which every city prices its own way, and winter, when Milwaukee keeps dumpsters off its open streets and alleys from December 1 to March 1. This is the honest, city by city rundown, with the real prices from our live pages.

How much does a dumpster cost in Wisconsin?

Start with the price, because Wisconsin keeps it simple. On our dumpster rental pages, Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Sheboygan, Kenosha, Racine, Appleton, Oshkosh, Waukesha, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Janesville and Wausau all share one ladder: a 10 yard at $495 to $695, a 12 yard at $523 to $723, a 15 yard at $550 to $750, a 20 yard at $595 to $795, a 30 yard at $695 to $895 and a 40 yard at $795 to $995, all inclusive. Every price covers delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes and 7 days, and extra days are $40 each. Real orders on those pages land inside the ladder: a 10 yard in Milwaukee ZIP 53215 at $515 in December 2025, a 20 yard in Green Bay ZIP 54311 at $567 in March 2026, a 15 yard in Madison ZIP 53704 at $604 in September 2025.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee has the strictest street rules in the state, and one of them is seasonal. A Milwaukee dumpster rental in the street, on the sidewalk or in the alley needs a permit first, from the Development Center at 809 N. Broadway, and the city's dumpster guidance sets the fee by how long the box stays and how much space it takes. The box needs a barricade with a flashing yellow light and reflective sheeting, which the renter supplies, and it can reach no more than 8 feet into the roadway. The big one: dumpsters may not be placed on streets or alleys open to traffic from December 1 to March 1. A winter job in Milwaukee goes on the driveway or private property, full stop.

What does Madison require, and when is alternate side parking?

Madison spells out the price. A Madison dumpster rental in the street needs a street occupancy permit from Traffic Engineering, a flat $50 per 30 days or portion of it, good for up to 90 days, and the city asks you to apply at least a week ahead. Winter matters here too: the city's alternate side parking runs November 15 to March 15, from 1 am to 7 am, odd dates on the odd address side and even dates on the even side. A driveway sidesteps all of it.

What about Green Bay, Appleton and Oshkosh?

Up the Fox Valley, the paperwork is quick. In Green Bay, Public Works handles a right of way obstruction permit that lists dumpster storage as a purpose and is reviewed within three business days once your insurance and site plan are on file, and the city bans street parking from 3 am to 5 am all year. In Appleton, a box on a city street or sidewalk needs an occupancy permit at $40, with up to five business days to process. In Oshkosh, any dumpster in the right of way, long term or short, falls under the city's obstruction license.

What about Sheboygan, and is there a 6 or 7 yard dumpster?

Sheboygan is where a lot of people are searching right now, and it runs on the same ladder as Milwaukee. A Sheboygan dumpster rental starts at $495 for a 10 yard, and real orders in ZIP 53081 on our page include a 12 yard at $509, a 20 yard at $647 and a 30 yard at $667. If you were searching for a 6 or 7 yard roll off, the smallest box on our Wisconsin pages is the 10 yard, and for a few rooms of junk or a small bathroom tear out it is usually the right call, since the price gap to a smaller box is small and running out of room costs a second haul. A box in the street goes through the city's right of way management process with the Engineering Division. On a driveway, none of the street paperwork applies, and the same goes for Sheboygan Falls and Manitowoc.

What do Racine, Waukesha, Eau Claire and La Crosse charge for a street permit?

Every other city prices the street permit its own way. Racine charges $100 per 12 days of street storage, up to four months, with at least four traffic cones, under its street storage permit. Waukesha requires a right of way permit for a dumpster in the street, sidewalk or terrace for any length of time. Eau Claire lists a dumpster in the right of way at a $45 base fee plus $4 a day. La Crosse charges $75 for a 14 day permit and $500 if no permit was applied for, per its 2026 dumpster fact sheet, with flashers front and rear. Kenosha and Janesville run on the same $495 ladder.

What can't go in a dumpster in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin bans a long list of things from its landfills, so they stay out of the box. Under Wisconsin Statute 287.07 and the DNR's banned materials list, that means major appliances, lead acid batteries, waste oil, waste tires, yard waste, covered electronics like TVs and computers, and recyclable containers and paper, including corrugated cardboard. A remodel full of drywall, flooring, cabinets and lumber is fine. Tell us what is going in, and concrete, dirt or brick goes in its own heavy load box.

How much weight is included, and what about asbestos?

The weight rules hold everywhere. The allowance is built in, about 1 ton on a 10 yard up to 4 tons on a 40, and anything over shows on the final invoice from the scale ticket at the per ton rate disclosed up front. Roofing shingles are regular construction debris, sized by the squares and the layers, so a roofer tells us the squares and we do the tonnage math. Older homes bring one more rule: the Wisconsin DNR requires notice 10 working days before a regulated asbestos renovation starts, and before most demolitions whether or not asbestos is found, with an exception for a single residential building of four or fewer units. Asbestos never goes in a regular dumpster.

What is the fastest way to get a real price?

So in Wisconsin the job comes down to three things: where the box will sit, which city signs the street permit, and whether it is December yet in Milwaukee. The fastest way to the real number is to price your exact ZIP, which shows your flat rate, your included tons and your delivery day in a couple of minutes, or start from the Wisconsin coverage hub and pick your city. Only need a small box? Our earlier edition on the 10 and 12 yard in Wisconsin walks through it, the free size calculator matches the box to the job, and our assistant Sam is on chat and the phone 24/7.

“We like to use private property as much as possible; street permits vary city by city.”

FROM THE DESK
The cost people never see is the landfill. When that container is full, I drive it to the transfer station and I pay to dump it, by the ton, right there. A load of concrete or wet demolition debris can carry a disposal bill by itself that is bigger than some of these cheap ads' entire price. That is exactly why our number includes a real weight allowance and the disposal trip, so you are not shocked at the end. When a price looks too low, the disposal is almost always the piece that got left out.
Michael V.Head of Operations
We like to use private property as much as possible; street permits vary city by city. When you call in, I will get you exactly what you need. The mistakes we see all the time are ordering the wrong size and not ordering enough weight. People want the cheapest up-front price, but the issue with that is you get what you pay for. It's best to discuss what you're using the dumpster for so we can price accurately, not set you up for failure with extra dump fees later.
Judi K.Site Services Specialist
For our commercial and repeat accounts, the reason they stay is that our one flat number is honest, so they can bid their own jobs with confidence. A contractor cannot run a business on a surprise invoice. The cheap headline that adds delivery, disposal, and overage later is worthless to a professional, because it wrecks the budget on the job. One all-inclusive price, no hidden fees, is not just customer-friendly, it is the only version a serious operator can actually plan around. Honest pricing is a feature, not a weakness.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Wisconsin, and do I need a permit?

Wisconsin runs on one all inclusive ladder with Ultimate Dumpsters: in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Sheboygan, Kenosha and Appleton a 10 yard runs $495 to $695 and a 20 yard $595 to $795, covering delivery, pickup, disposal, taxes and 7 days. A box on your own driveway stays out of the street permit rules. In the street it needs the city's permit, and in Milwaukee dumpsters can't go on streets or alleys open to traffic from December 1 to March 1.

Full statewide ladder: a 12 yard runs $523 to $723, a 15 yard $550 to $750, a 30 yard $695 to $895 and a 40 yard $795 to $995. Each size includes about 1 to 4 tons, weight over the allowance is billed from the scale ticket at the per ton rate disclosed up front, and extra days are $40 per day. Street permits: Madison $50 per 30 days, Racine $100 per 12 days, Appleton $40, Eau Claire $45 plus $4 a day, La Crosse $75 for 14 days. The smallest box on our Wisconsin pages is the 10 yard. Major appliances, tires, yard waste, electronics and recyclables are banned from Wisconsin landfills and stay out of the box. This edition covers Wisconsin, chosen by Dylan from Google Search Console striking distance data for September 22 to October 20, 2026, where a cluster of Sheboygan searches (6, 7, 10, 20 and 30 yard roll off dumpster sheboygan wi, and cheapest dumpster rental sheboygan wi) sat near position 10 with about 5,900 impressions and almost no clicks. It goes beyond our earlier Wisconsin edition on the 10 and 12 yard, and is written to push crawl authority and buyer intent into the existing live Wisconsin city pages, not to compete with them. Every price, the $40 per day extension and the real order examples are taken from the live dumpsterrentals.us Wisconsin city pages on October 22, 2026. The Milwaukee permit, placement, lighting and December 1 to March 1 rules, the Madison street occupancy permit and alternate side parking, the Green Bay obstruction permit and night parking ban, the Appleton occupancy permit, the Oshkosh obstruction license, the Sheboygan right of way process, the Racine street storage permit, the Waukesha right of way permit, the Eau Claire and La Crosse permit fees, the Wisconsin landfill bans and the DNR asbestos notification rule are from those cities' and agencies' published pages and the Wisconsin Statutes. Portable toilet prices are from the live Wisconsin portable toilet page. Team voices are from Ultimate Dumpsters staff. No invented statistics and no proprietary order counts.
